in this bitter shade
every sun rises to obliterate all
my shadow at 3pm
leaves a tall dark line at least a mile east
this haunting ache left within me
no, this is wrong
nothing is left within me
the gaping hole grows deeper still
a hunger left forever unsated
the terrible trembling loss
raking me to the group
i become the earth
dry, scorched and cracked open
there are no words at all
only the cloying rancid breathing of this body
shuddering
i try to quiet the silent hysteria
before it escapes from my lips
nothing, none of this dream
was ever meant for me
i hear the faint "click, click-click, click-click"
of the valves of my heart
trying to force the sawdust dry blood through me
and nothing else moves
